Literature Text

I've lived here for years,
Among the once beautiful greens.
The beautiful greens that always lasted.

I've seen winters come and go,
Bringing their white blankets and sleets.
But the beautiful greens always lasted.

I've fought wars and fires,
Raging in fury and death.
But the beautiful greens survived.

I've felt the heat of the sun,
Beating down through the ozone's gap.
But still the beautiful greens stayed strong.

But now, I feel the burning heat of a falling fire,
A weapon of our own turned against us.
A war we could not win,
A final desparation that will ruin us all.

The beautiful greens are no more.
Something I wrote a few years back for a school project. I was given a photograph, and told to write a poem about it. I sadly don't have the photograph anymore; I'd have loved to show it alongside this.
